Razer says the Viper Mini is explicitly designed for gamers looking to play games while travelling. However, it won’t replace the Viper or Viper Ultimate for those who want something with a little more heft.
For starters, the Razer Viper Mini Ultralight Gaming Mouse features a smaller scroll wheel than the larger one found on the Viper. This makes it easier to navigate menus and maps, though you’ll still have plenty of room to move around.
It cannot also switch between left-handed and right-handed modes, which are handy for people who prefer using their hands differently.
While the Viper Mini does feature Razer’s signature “chatter” sound effect, it doesn’t come out quite as loud as the original model. Still, it’s enough to let everyone know you’re playing a game.
In terms of performance, the Viper Mini feels just as fast as the rest of the Viper lineup. Scrolling through menus and moving across the screen is smooth and easy, thanks to its low weight.
One thing I noticed about the Viper Mini is that there isn’t much travel on the scroll wheel. While this might make it less precise, it works better because the mouse tends to drift away from my hand when I’m scrolling.
I’ve always liked how comfortable the Viper felt in my hand, but the Viper Mini takes things even further. It’s incredibly soft and fits perfectly into my palm. Even without a wrist strap, I didn’t find myself having to hold the mouse firmly in place.
Design and Features
Razer calls the Viper Mini “the world’s smallest laser gaming mouse.” While that might sound like hyperbole, there’s no question that it’s true. At 0.85 inches long, the Viper Mini is one of the slimmest mice we’ve ever tested. And while it doesn’t quite reach the length of the Razer DeathAdder Elite, the Viper Mini is still closer to the width and height. But what sets the Viper Mini apart isn’t just its diminutive size; it’s also how well it performs. The Viper Mini is almost identical to the Razer DeathAdder, except for some subtle differences in design and features that make it easier to use.
The most significant change is that the Razer Viper Mini Gaming Mouse uses Razer’s proprietary LIGHTSPEED optical sensor technology instead of the standard 3200 DPI optical sensor found on most mice. This allows for faster response times and less lag, especially compared to the Razer DeathAdder.
Software
Synapse is Razer’s software that gives gamers complete control over their peripherals. The software allows users to adjust colours and brightness and even change the LED pattern on each side of the mouse. In addition to adjusting individual settings, users can save custom configurations for future use.
The software also lets you connect up to four devices simultaneously. For example, you could set one profile for gaming, another for typing, and still others for watching movies or browsing the web. You’ll also be able to sync profiles across multiple computers via the cloud.
Performance and Gaming
When it comes to performance, the Razer Viper Mini Gaming Mouse is pretty similar to the rest of the Viper line. Like all other Vipers, the Viper Mini has an excellent tracking system. When I moved the mouse around the desktop, I had no trouble keeping track of where
Razer says it spent over four months developing the new optical switches, which are now included in the Viper Ultimate Edition. The company says the new switches are engineered to be lighter and more durable while delivering the same performance as the originals.
The switches themselves aren’t much different from the original Razer Vipers. There’s still a row of buttons along the bottom edge, and each switch features a red LED indicator next to the button. The LEDs are positioned off to the side, allowing a seeker look rather than being placed directly above the buttons.
There are also some subtle differences. For example, each switch has a slight ridge around the perimeter where the laser beams meet the plastic housing, making it easier to tell whether the mouse is activated. And because the lasers emit infrared light, the mouse won’t register a press if you place it under something like a pillow or blanket.
The new switches are identical to the originals, meaning you shouldn’t notice anything different about the exterior apart from the new packaging. Inside, however, Razer has added a few extra components, including a battery, a micro-controller, and a small circuit board. These elements allow the mouse to operate independently of the computer, so it can continue working even if the PC goes into sleep mode.
One feature that hasn’t changed since the original Vipers is the ability to customize key bindings. You can assign up to 16 keys to perform specific functions, such as opening the web browser or launching Photoshop. To do so, open the software and select the “Keyboard Shortcuts” option. Then scroll down to find the section labelled “Customize Keys.” You can drag and drop the desired commands onto the appropriate keyboard shortcut.
The new switches work precisely the same way as the originals. Hold the mouse button down and move the cursor across the surface of the mouse pad. When the cursor stops moving, release the button and watch as the corresponding command executes.
While we couldn’t test out the new switches ourselves, Razer provided us with two of its older models to compare against. One came preloaded with the new switches, while the second was fitted with the old ones. Both mice performed identically, so the new switches appear to perform just as well as their predecessors.

The Razer Viper Mini Ultralight Gaming Mouse is available on Amazon for $39.99.
Verdict
The Razer Viper Mini Ultralight Gaming Mouse isn’t a mini version of the larger Razer Viper. Instead, it’s a scaled-down model of the original Razer Viper. But while the original model costs $150, the Razer Viper Mini starts at just $100. And even though it’s technically smaller, there’s no real difference in performance. The Razer Viper Mini Ultralight Gaming Mouse feels like a much better value than the original Razer Viper.
If you want something small, light, portable, and easy to carry around, the Razer Viper Mini might be perfect for you. You won’t find anything quite like it on store shelves, either. Sure, there are plenty of options out there that cost less money. But none of those products offers the same level of comfort and control.
But if you’re looking for a great value, the Razer Viper Mini Ultralight Gaming Mouse offers everything you could ask for in a mouse. It’s comfortable, responsive, and accurate.
